Hey Dolls! When purchasing our Vellum Overlay Invitations customers often ask “how do I attach the two layers?” So I thought it was time to write a post about my favorite ways (both simple and luxe) to finish your vellum overlay invites.
Note: this post does not contain affiliate links. I am just sharing the products that I like and use.
Paper Fasteners or Brads
Paper fasteners are an easy and affordable way to attach your vellum invitation layers that looks luxe and refined.
Supplies: Paper fasteners, exacto knife, ruler and paper clips.
Instructions: Paper clip both layers together. Use a ruler to mark where your slit is going to be (in center or corner) and use your exacto knife to cut a small slit. It doesn’t need to be large, 1/8 or less is fine. You just need to start the hole for the fastener to go through. Then using the pointed end insert your fastener. Push it through all the way, then separate and flatten the two arms to secure.
Hole punch and string or ribbon
A simple method and endless creative options.
Supplies: Hole puncher, string to secure, ruler, paper clips.
Instructions: Paper clip both layers together. Use a ruler to mark where hole punch is going to be (in center or corner). Hole punch and secure with your string of choice.
Secure with satin or silk ribbon, cord, twine, leather cord, bookmark tassels are a personal fave!, embroidery floss, satin cord. The possibilities for this option are endless.
Eyelets
If you‘re looking for a more elevated professional look eyelets are a great option.
Supplies: Eyelets, Crop-a-dile eyelet tool, ruler, paper clips.
Instructions: Paper clip both layers together. Use a ruler to mark where your eyelet is going to be (in center or corner). Use your Crop-a-dile eyelet tool to make a hole, then insert your eyelet into the hole. Next clamp the crop-a-dile eyelet tool around the eyelet and squeeze to secure the eyelet to the paper.
Note: I suggest practicing with this tool on some scrap cardstock before your start on the real thing.
Hope you loved this post!! xoxo, Crystal
